Breweries generate a large amount of wet spent grain during the beer production process. Because freshly discharged spent grain contains a high level of moisture, direct transportation and storage can increase handling costs, create odor problems and reduce its storage stability.

The spent grain is produced during the mashing and lautering stages. As the soluble part of the malt is transferred into the wort, the insoluble and fibrous portion remains behind as BSG. Depending on the brewing conditions, fresh spent grain may contain around 80–85% moisture.

Full Stainless Steel Spent Grain Dewatering Screw Press for Animal Feed is designed to continuously separate free liquid from wet brewers' spent grain through mechanical screw pressing.

Working Principle 

Wet spent grain enters the feeding section of the Screw Press Dewatering Machine and is gradually conveyed forward by a rotating screw.

As the material moves through the pressing chamber, the available volume becomes progressively smaller. Mechanical pressure forces part of the liquid through the screen openings, while the dewatered solid material continues toward the discharge outlet.

The pressure at the outlet can be adjusted according to the characteristics of the material and the required dewatering performance.

This continuous working principle allows breweries to process spent grain without frequent manual unloading.
